The electrical wiring of homes and other buildings is extremely important. Sometimes it can be complex and mistakes can mean serious damage or fatalities. A competent electrician must be able to identify safety and code violations in addition to being able to handle wiring, new and old. When our electricians make their house calls, sometimes they come in cold with no idea what to expect. In this way, our electricians and all Kentucky electricians must be licensed and supported to continue their education.
Kentucky State Electrician Licensing Program
On the level, an electrician who is seeking the Kentucky state licensing must show proof of experience (at least one year of electrical experience, an average of 1600 hours or a signed affidavit from a reference confirming experience) and liability insurance. The aspiring electrician is to sign up for training courses and afterward must pass a state examination.
Electrician Education
The courses in preparation for the electrician license range from basic electricity knowledge to the National Electrical Code to residential and commercial wiring. Electricians must also learn the wiring system during construction. In addition to the courses electricians must take to receive their licenses, experienced electricians are expected to maintain a certain level of continuing education credits when renewing their licenses.
In addition to staying on top of electrical trends, Kentucky’s licensed electricians are expected to follow a code of ethics. In general, this code demands that the electrician only operates while licensed, does the work according to code, and is honest about the work performed and the work for which they charge.
